Bugatti Goes Topless with Veyron Grand Sport

Of all the special editions of the inherently special Bugatti Veyron since its much-ballyhooed debut in 2005, including the unpainted Pur Sang and the hide-swaddled Fbg par Hermès edition, the new Grand Sport roadster is surely the most dramatic. Unveiled at this year’s Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance, the Veyron 16.4 Grand Sport features a removable hard top of transparent polycarbonate and an integrated roll hoop made of carbon fiber that bridges the engine’s enormous air intakes. Of course, the Grand Sport retains the Veyron’s 8-liter, quad-turbo W-16 power plant, good for a titanic 987 horsepower, but Bugatti has executed a host of under-the-skin modifications intended to ensure that the open-topped Veyron retains the coupe’s safety, structural rigidity, and superb driving dynamics. With the hard top in place, the roadster loses nothing to the enclosed Veyron: Top speed remains a stunning 253 mph. With the top off, terminal velocity falls to a still-astonishing 224 mph. (The hard top can’t be stowed onboard, but the Grand Sport includes a clever “umbrella” soft top — usable to 81 mph — for unexpected downpours.) The Veyron 16.4 Grand Sport is priced at about .1 million, and although Bugatti has promised the first 50 cars to existing customers, the company plans to build a generous 150 examples of the world’s fastest convertible starting in March 2009. New Pontiac G6 Launches in January

General Motors recently announced that the new and updated lineup of Pontiac will be launched on January 2009.

The new Pontiac G6 lineup boasts a large 2.4 liter four banger that was rated to be at 164 horsepower. The said feature was initially seen at GM’s Sedan series.

Car enthusiasts expect that the new lineup would promise a 33 mpg rate. This is in lieu of the fact that the vehicles were all paired up with the six speed automatics.

The new Pontiac G6 lineup offers two kinds of engines: the original 3.9 liter V6 (222hp for the convertible types) and a new Ethanol E85 V6 engine.

People waiting for this new series are surely in for a good ride. The exteriors of the Pontiac G6 have all been pimped up for the delight of its fans.

Following the design of GM’s G8 Sedan, the front and rear fascias of the new Pontiac lineup were given a sporty appeal. Improved spoilers also gave the vehicles a different attitude. To cap off the improvements, the new lineup were given a feel of new headlights.

Meanwhile, not all the models were given an interior upgrade to retain their sporty looks. The GXPs are the only ones among the lineup that were given new interior furnishings.

The G6 Sedan will start as GM’s 2009 ½ model. Insiders say that the unit will cost ,945 (inclusive of shipping). On the other hand, the G3 batch will be available in the market by March with a starting price of ,995.

Copia Appears Doomed

A month ago I wrote about trouble for Napa Valley’s Copia: The American Center for Wine, Food and the Arts. Since then it’s gotten a lot worse. The Sacramento Bee reports that a federal bankruptcy court judge has blocked attempts by the center to a million emergency loan so that it can stay open while it tries to reorganize million in debts. The decision means that Copia which closed at the start of December will stay closed and programs will probably be canceled. In an email to the Bee, , chief executive Garry McGuire said that “the organization will wind down and be dissolved eventually.” The non-profit has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection from creditors.

Copia’s tax-exempt bonds were insured in case the non-profit ever went bankrupt and the bond insurer, ACA Financial Guaranty Corp. of New York is interested in beginning foreclosure proceedings. They have accused Copia insiders of trying to enrich themselves at the expense of bondholders with a bankruptcy filing and proposed million building sale but that deal is unlikely to go through now.

Portland Condo Offers Overnight Stays To Lure Buyers

Filed under:

Condo gloom is everywhere, some projects are stopping half-completed, some are shrinking, some are turning into rentals, and then there are the incentives. Developers have been using all sorts of lures to get people into condos including price cuts, appliance and decor upgrades and even free bikes and cars. A new technique comes out of Portland, Oregon. The developer of the Atwater Place condominiums thinks you’ll be more eager to buy if you can just sleep in it over night. The ninth floor display unit is accepting potential buyers as overnight guests, hoping they’ll rise in the morning, look at the Willamette river views and make coffee in the new kitchen and decide to sign the contract. The Atwater tower is 30 percent sold and sells condos from just under 0,000 to over million, pretty steep for Portland.

Bailout Wine Bets On A Rebounding Dow

Filed under:

Custom wine facility Crushpad has a unique answer to the financial crisis, Bailout Wine. The wine is a Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon which will sell for per bottle. But what makes this wine with the bear and bull label so unique is that for every 100-point drop in the Dow Jones from the date of purchase to the projected bottling date of August 14 2009, Crushpad will knock another off the bottle. If the Dow rebounds the price stands. Only 500 cases of Bailout will be produced but the company could still take a hit if the Dow tumbles. For example if you bought when the Dow was at 8,800 and then on August 14, 2009 it closes at 7,300 (let’s hope not) you would pay just a bottle and get your back. The wine will be shipped after it is bottled in Summer 2009.
